We usually associate ideas of loss and pain to individuals or groups, yet a tangible form of these same ideas can be found to be associated with seemingly mundane objects. Their loss of use, their loss of importance affects those who depend on them. Not many remember the objects now as they once used to but some still do, some who have no other choice, the memories of the objects in front of them are fleeting yet alive.
“the typewriter’s death” explores the slow death of the typewriter in the city of Bombay through three viewpoints, with only a thin thread of narrative sequence. Typewriter’s are now almost obsolete in the city. A typist from the streets waits for a customer all day, a repairman waits for a typewriter, while the typewriter in a classroom waits for a typist.
The Typewriter's Death was also selected to be screened at the Saigon Experimental Film Festival in Vietnam.
